I’ve recently heard someone in a bookstore telling a group of people why they shouldn’t have their own attorneys, how they can’t trust lawyers, how lawyers will deceive them, and how they should rely instead on the organization to which the speaker belonged. The talk made me think that people facing separation and divorce need not just any lawyer but a good lawyer for divorce. SKV Attorneys Inc. is one of the authority sites on this topic.
Reason # 1-What to Know
You need to know your constitutional rights, duties and responsibilities. You can only be represented by a lawyer who was hired to represent your interests. How would you negotiate financial arrangements for separating and divorcing objectively, if you don’t know what your rights, duties and obligations are? Not understanding what your rights are can lead to your children not having your fair share of money, your fair share of care or your fair share of time. Not understanding what your duties and responsibilities are can result in more than your fair share of assets or your fair share of help being paid out. Many lawyers offer a special reduced rate of consultation services to encourage people to get advice early and regularly. There’s no need to rely on advice from the backyard fence when you can get real advice at a reasonable fee from a qualified, experienced divorce lawyer. In addition, in my experience, the advice on fencing in the backyard is typically incorrect. If what you hear is half true, mind, it’s still false.
Reason # 2-Advice at backyard
My daughter is divorced. Why can’t I rely on the experience and knowledge of my friend? Okay, you may be able to do so, but what you need to know is that unless your friend is a trained lawyer, he / she is not allowed to practice law. Knowledge about your friend is limited to his / her personal experience. His / her legal knowledge is confined to the details of his / her case and the law as it was at the time. Things change. The legislation does change. Any change to the truth will affect the outcome or the advice. Additionally, amendments to the legislation will alter the guidance. Your friend clearly lacks the expertise and experience to offer sound practical guidance on legal matters.
Reason # 3- Identifying Questions
The sooner you get an attorney, the faster you understand what you need to know to protect yourself (and your children and the interests of the property).
